The town could not be better situated as London Victoria and London Bridge are less than 20 minutes away by rail, and Gatwick Airport about the same in the opposite direction. The London services run so frequently there is never any need to consult a timetable, and trains run 24 hours a day from London Victoria to East Croydon, and then on to Gatwick. The coast is about an hour’s journey, with Brighton a popular destination.
Travel within the town is easy, as bus and tram services are extensive. Croydon Tramlink carries over 20 million passengers a year. It is an environmentally friendly, modern public transport system. The service goes as far as Wimbledon to the west, and Beckenham to the east.
There is extensive shopping at the Whitgift Centre and Centrale, combined they are one of the largest retail areas outside of central London in the south east. Croydon is also home to huge megastores such as Ikea. South Croydon has a wide range of dining options, bars and nightclubs. For those who enjoy open spaces there are plenty of parks to obtain the full benefit of Croydon’s renowned good weather.. |
